When I finished my previous work, Nudes in the Jungle, I had already decided that the second piece to the series would be set in the bay. The ocean has always been a significant part of my life. I grew up in a small beach town in California and the ocean holds a nostalgic place in my heart, yet this is not entirely what inspired the making of Nudes by the Bay. During the several months I spent creating this piece, I was swept up in my own personal current of learning a rough and rocky lesson that people are not always who they present themselves to be. It was a harsh realization, but ultimately it led to more awareness in my interactions with others. Let's talk about the moon, the centerpiece, which symbolizes revealing hidden truths. We all have truths about ourselves we may not want to reveal to others, and that is okay, but pretending to be someone else in order to manipulate another person is not, and the moon is a reminder that the truth will always come to light.  

The Blue Sea is a depiction of movement, change, and the ebbs and flows of the human experience. As mentioned throughout each statement in this series, the three figures represent healing within the body, both physical and emotional. Rocky reefs are full of obstacles - as well as beauty, just like life. The rocky shore that the women are occupying, is representative of the different choices one can make. If you step too hard on a jagged area you could cut yourself, alternatively, if you step softly onto a smooth rock you could slip and fall into the ocean. Choose your steps carefully because each choice in life carries a different outcome. 

In an attempt to evoke certain emotions throughout this series, I put my full intention into what each element illustrates. It is my hope as the artist, that the symbolic portrayal is felt through viewing each piece of work.
