It was early 2023, the start of a fresh new year, and I had just emerged from an era of my life that was comparable to a living hell. As I stepped into a new timeline, I found healing within the creation of Nudes in the Garden, piece four of five of this series. This piece represents the healing of wounds and the emergence of beauty during the course of growth. Each element holds a connection to different phases within the healing process.
The tangled flowers in the background represent grief and chaos after a traumatic event. I spent many days searching through Vogue magazines to find the perfect floral frenzy. The pink and orange daisies at the bottom center, serve as a reminder that we, as humans can be both different and the same simultaneously. The bricks were made using cut-up Dior ads from a Harpers Bazaar magazine. They represent a wall of protection, but it’s only halfway up for personal reasons. Meanwhile, the willow tree weeps and the caterpillar transforms into the butterfly, free and full of a new perspective. Each figure depicts the space I hold not only for the human body as a whole - but also for all of humanity to a greater degree. Each figure is wearing carefully selected jewelry; representing eternal elegance. One example is the Bulgari earrings on the figure standing to the right. The red rose symbolizes the blooming of hope and serenity, which is what I felt in the last moments of creating this work of art.
