XVI THE TOWER (2025)
20in x 30in
Mixed Media: Hand-Cut Found Editorial
and Acrylic on Canvas
Created almost entirely from hand-cut fragments of editorial couture over targeted black acrylic, The Tower embodies the sudden collapse of illusion and the chaos that clears a path for truth. Drawing on Rider-Waite-Smith iconography, the composition sets fragile paper stonework against the inevitable forces of rupture and renewal.
Building the fracturing tower from delicate paper brings physical form to the tension between fragile surfaces and sudden collapse.
As I constructed the central lightning bolt, a sudden thunderstorm broke outside my studio window; a moment when the canvas and my reality converged into a literal and symbolic fall from grace.
The tumbling figures depict humanity’s reluctant descent into change, while the flames emerging from the crown signify destruction as an act of purification.
