NUDES IN THE SNOW (2023)
Nudes in Nature Series: 5/5
48in x 36in
Mixed Media: Hand-Cut Found Editorial
and Acrylic on Canvas
In the making of Nudes in the Snow—the fifth and final work in this series—I was swept into a ritual of purification. Every layer of paint became a release of old narratives, habits, and patterns; a process of shedding the weight of the past to make room for a rebirth. As the composition took shape, it felt as though the canvas itself was breathing a new, colder, and crystalline life into my world.
The paper mountains rise with a sense of unshakable constancy. Their ridges speak to endurance, while their peaks symbolize a reach toward a higher consciousness—a quiet ascent into the sacred. The cool blue snow, built with a precise and quiet intensity, mirrors an intentional space where the silence of stillness finally muffles the chaos of the past.
The birch trees stand as emblems of resilience, survivors of the harshest environments, remaining unyielding in their grace. Nestled within this landscape, the snowy owl—a serendipitous find from a Harper’s Bazaar ad—serves as a solemn vigil within the work. The owl embodies a wisdom born from hardship: the intersection of the seen and the unseen, witnessing this expansive new chapter with a hushed, commanding presence.
As the conclusion to this five-part journey, the figures remain the central vessels of this restoration—honoring not only my own path, but a greater, collective rising toward a shared peace. Nudes in the Snow is a prayer made visible: a vision of transcendence and the sacred, silent beauty of renewal.
