XIV- THE TOWER

XVI THE TOWER (2025)

20in x 30in

Mixed Media: Hand-Cut Found Editorial

and Acrylic on Canvas

Created entirely from fragments of editorial couture, The Tower utilizes small hand-cut, hand-layered paper to build its form, with only the black background and black border rendered in acrylic. Drawing on the Rider-Waite Tarot iconography, this piece embodies the sudden collapse of illusion and the chaos that clears a path for truth.

As I constructed the lightning bolt, a thunderstorm broke outside my studio window. In that moment,  it felt as if the card suddenly came to life. The energy of the storm mirrored a parallel shift in my own world—a lived experience of the "fall from grace" depicted on the canvas.

The falling figures represent humanity’s reluctant descent into change, while the flames leaping from the windows symbolize the dual nature of destruction and purification. The collaged stones of the tower reflect the fragility of foundations built on falsehoods, where collapse is the only requirement for rebirth. In the end, this piece became more than a depiction of The Tower—it was a lived experience. Through the debris of the collapse and the energy of the storm, the chaos finally stilled, leaving behind a profound clarity.
